It was in the 1980s, during a tense U.S. Open match, when Chris’s diamond bracelet, her prize possession, the perfect symbol of her unique blend of fire and ice, and of her success, fell off her wrist as she was playing. It was one of the few occasions when the Ice Maiden lost her cool, and insisted on stopping the game until her “tennis” bracelet, as she called it, was found.

In fact, the tennis bracelet is a jewellery classic dating back to the Art Deco style of the 1920s and 30s, when new geometrically cut diamonds formed a tactile, supremely articulated slithering line, the perfect adornment for the bare arms revealed by the new sleeveless dance dresses.
