Living in North Carolina, I’m used to flat coasts so when mapping out my plan to photograph the Bay Bridge at sunset on our two day trip I looked to the "secret photography spot" on Yerba Buena Island (see map) thinking it would be pretty easy to get to–WRONG. Apparently islands in SF are steep cliffs..and not to mention there is no parking lot or visitor center on the windy narrow roads. So we decided to wait and explore Treasure Island while the sun set a little further and the lights on the bridge came on. We waited..and waited..and then it was dark and we waited some more, but only half of the lights were on. At this point I was getting a little nervous that my one night to photograph, the lights on the bridge would be broken, but luckily about 30 minutes later they went on and there was still a little bit of light in the sky.

Then my dad dropped me off and I hopped the guardrail and started my slippery and steep decent into the brush and mud. I was also in a bit of a hurry since my dad gave me only 15 minutes. I wish I had gone down a little farther to get the city underneath the bridge but this is all I could get and although it’s not the best shot of the bridge, it’s good to add another iconic landmark to my portfolio.
