Why do we get "out of region" msg when tuning RSNs on Dish Network?

Question by maturner_1: Why do we get “out of region” msg when tuning RSNs on Dish Network?
Recently switched from cable to dish. We see out-of-market baseball games listed on the AltSports channels but can’t tune them. Should that be? My understanding of MLB blackout rules would prohibit us from viewing “in-market” games from any source other than the RSN with rights.

You’re on the right track.

Those out-of-market games listed on those alternate/overflow RSN channels not in your region are only viewable by purchasing either MLB Extra Innings for cable/satellite or MLB.TV for the internet.

So, for instance, I live in New England. I have DirecTV. I can see the alt channel for Comcast Sports Net Chicago for a Cubs game on my receiver’s schedule page. However, I can watch the Cubs game only if I purchased MLB Extra Innings.
