Why don't players like Peyton Manning take a lower paying football contract to secure the team around him?

Question by Stupid Flanders: Why don’t players like Peyton Manning take a lower paying football contract to secure the team around him?
I may be being a bit naive about this, but between football and endorsements, doesn’t Peyton Manning have enough money to support his whole family for the next 20 generations?

Totally discounting the lockout, wouldn’t it be refreshing to see a star player with hundreds of millions in the bank say he will play for $ 10 million a year instead of $ 25 million so that the team can keep or sign other players that will keep the team competitive?

Best answer:

Answer by $ cashmoney
because they need to build a team around him . and a guy like him is priceless.
