Production has halted on “The Colbert Report” for Wednesday and Thursday, based on fans who had tickets for the rest of the week’s tapings.

Third Beat and Mediaite are reporting that audience members were informed late Tuesday night via email, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have cancelled our taping for the date of the ticket reservation, February 15, 2012.” And ColbertNation.com has been updated with a rerun scheduled for Thursday night’s episode.

Colbert’s mother seriously ill, report sources near to the showMultiple outlets have cited a family group illness as the cause of the suspension of “The Colbert Report,” and now someone that features a business relationship with the show has told Huffington Post that the host’s mother is seriously ill, and the show will continue to be suspended until the guy can return.

Fans and supporters have been tweeting messages of affection and support for Colbert and his family throughout the day.

Colbert was given birth to the youngest of 11 children to mother Lorna, 91, and father James, who died in a very plane accident in 1974 together with two of Colbert’s brothers.

Lorna Colbert appeared on a South Carolina television station referring to her famous son in 2008.

A spokesman for Comedy Central said on Thursday morning that the taping of “The Colbert Report” have been suspended on Wednesday evening and can be again on Thursday due to “unforeseen circumstances,” but the network failed to immediately provide additional information what triggered the cancellations. (The Wall Street Journal reported which a family emergency prompted the suspension.)

Audience members who planned to visit Wednesday’s taping of Stephen Colbert’s satirical news show wrote online that they had been sent notices from “The Colbert Report,” letting them know the taping was canceled and they must make reservations for a new date. As an alternative to broadcasting a fresh show, which has been to have featured Claire Danes being a guest, Comedy Central showed a rerun on Wednesday night.

The author Susan Cain, who had previously been to own appeared on Thursday’s taping of the show, wrote to be with her Twitter feed that this taping have been canceled too which her booking have been rescheduled for March.

Steve Albani, a spokesman for Comedy Central, said in an e-mail: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16.” Customarily “The Colbert Report” does not tape new episodes on Fridays.
