“Sixty years is a long time in the life of a town and while Kure Beach has matured and prospered during that time, we have also remained a family-friendly vacation destination,” said Kure Beach Mayor Tim Fuller. “The year that Kure Beach was founded Tennessee Williams’ play A Streetcar Named Desire had just opened on Broadway, Chuck Yeager had just flown faster than the speed of sound, and Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to be on a professional baseball team. Over those next 60 years, America saw a lot of changes. Kure Beach evolved too, but I’m proud to say that the character and atmosphere of our town remained the same.”

In recent years, Kure Beach became known as a resort destination that offers “one pier, one stop light, no worries.” Families from throughout the Carolinas visit each summer to enjoy the beach and numerous fishing tournaments are held at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier drawing fishing enthusiasts from around the world.

“Today Kure Beach offers a different pace and a vacation experience that often becomes a treasured family memory,” said Kim Hufham, President/CEO of the Cape Fear Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Generation after generation has returned here and we’ve been blessed to gain a reputation as a favorite vacation spot for families and fishermen. We hope that all those who have enjoyed Kure Beach over the years will return to be a part of this happy 60th anniversary celebration because we’re rolling out the red carpet for them. Kure Beach offers a wide array of accommodation choices to fit every size family and every size budget. Beachfront and off-beach motels, cottages, condominiums and efficiencies are all available, and everything is close by. So bring the family and join in our fun.”
