Discovery just made its last flight ever atop a 747, where it'll be laid to rest at the Smithsonian for the public to appreciate. We won't see something like this again for a long, long time.

Mounted atop a NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), flies over the Washington skyline as seen from a NASA T-38 aircraft, Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

Earlier today, Space Shuttle Discovery piggybacked in flight this morning to its final resting place, at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center.

Photos from the space shuttle Discovery, trip up the east coast to the Smithsonian for permanent display.
